Help a newbie with basic audio stuff?

I'll admit it... I'm an idiot when it comes to audio stuff. But where can I find info about power ratings and how it relates to sound quality? I'm totally clueless when I see something that says it is 50 Watts or whatever. Anyone know of places to explain stuff like this? Thanks!
