Just caught word from a friend that a local store called Surplus Electronics is selling these for $89.95 a pop... i called a CSR just to make sure it was real, and everything seemed in order...

Information:

Surplus electroics.. 1-800-311-5560

and the model is the Apex AD600A

price doesn't include the S&H.

Hope this is a good deal, or i'll feel kinda dumb for posting this

You sure its not the older unit that lacks mp3 playback + the loophole menu? Many stores are selling off "surplus" units heh. Might want to double check as that price is below cost by quite a bit.

Hmmmm, I thought it was the older units that have the loophole menu, and that they all have MP3 playback capabilities. The newer ones don't have the loophole menu, so I've heard.

There is an older model unit (with same model #) that was available in 99 that lacked both those features, adding to the confusion the loophole/mp3 unit was also sold in 99 under the same model #..wonderful thinking eh?

This is the same as the message posted by Liquidh2o, except this is from an email. My question: is this too good to be true ?
So I called up this AM but received an answering message. I tried two more times and have the same result. I guessed it is probably in west coast and this is Saturday.
Then this PM, I tried once more, and voila, a lady answered and explained that this price also includes S/H !!! However, they don't take credit card, but only electronic check, which means they get the name of my bank, my checing account account and my check number. I was a bit leary to give her that information. She told me I can check with my bank and this is legitimate.
I called up my bank and the CR assured me that the seller will only charged whatever the amount I authorized and no more.
This price is unheard of. I have prepaid an order to Circuit City for $179 (plus tax) and still waiting the item for 6 weeks.
Has anyone received this email and placed an order ?

They don't take a credit card? I mean come on, how hard is that? All they have to do is use PayPal or something, it's free after all.

Sounds like a major scam to me.

Scam? No I'm sure it's not.

DELETED: Thought better of it and edited snide comments about the recent memberships of the deal posters/commentators.

I don't believe that giving someone access to your checking account limits them to withdrawing only what you authorize. How is your bank going to know? With a CC you can dispute a charge and the CC company will only hold you liable for the first $50. To my knowledge there are no such protections available for using a bank draft, just like none are avail. for a debit card.

Just ask yourselves, is an "Online Marketing Test" seem plausible as a reason to sell these at half the going rate?

My $.02
