The disk 2 drive on my toshiba sd3109 won't stay closed anymore. I blame this on my mother for being careless.. I think the drive was left half way open the whole night. Whenever I press the close button, it closes and opens up again, it won't stay closed. The disk 1 drive won't open either. Should I get this repaired or do I have to buy another player? this makes me so mad because I just bought this from mercata at a GREAT bargain price only 5 months ago. I'm not sure what to do... I was so looking forward to watching taxi driver that I had just recieved the other day...
If I do have to buy a new one, can anyone recommend a player that is just as good or better than my toshiba and at a cheap price? I need a player that works well with my 36xbr250.

It should be covered under some warranty if it is less than 1 year old. Try contacting Toshiba to find a repair center near you and take it in. Act like you have no idea why it is not working now.

Two quickies:
One time my tray was left open and it didn't respond to remote commands - I gently pushed against the tray w/my finger until it closed on its own. Worked fine ever since.
There may be a memory reset command for your player. For my non-Toshiba player, you unplug the player, hold down the power button, re-plug in the player. That initializes the player to its factory settings. Toshiba (or someone else in this forum )can probably tell you how to do that for the 3109.

Hopefully you can get your existing one repaired because that would be much cheaper than replacing it with a new one. But, if you *have* to get a new one, you can usually find the JVC 3-tray DVD player for less than $300. I think Circuit City has it for a good price right now. It has both componenent and S-Video and passes both DTS and DD bitstreams. I've had one for about 8 months now and I love it. No problems playing any movies so far.
