Need simple and cheap speakers
I just got my folks a new Sony 46" LCD (KDL-46V5200). Problem is that the built in sound is pretty crappy for their hearing. I want to hook up a pair of speakers that would help and broadcast all the time, but the problem is that the TV has audio out (fix), and that by using this they wouldnt be able to control the tv volume. My Comcast DVR box has audio output (RCA), so can I use those instead>
Can anyone rec a pair of speakers (powered if necessary) that would be able to connect to RCA (one red and one White output). Sorry to sound inhoherent, but I'm not well versed in audiology and don't leave the "otter" forum often. Oh, and a receiver or home theater in a box is out of the question, cause its for my folks and I want simplicity. Thanks

A home theater in a box is the way to go.
It is unlikely that the tv or the cable box can power speakers. True self amped speakers are not cheap and will likely not sound good either.
Going to be very tough to beat $249

Thanks for the quick reply Brian, I dont mind paying for amped speakers, I want simplicity for my folks. Having another remote and dealing with a receiver is only going to add stress for them. I just want good speakers that are on when the tv is on and off whern the tv is off, NO other buttons to push.

The problem with powered/computer speakers is that they will be powered on at all times.
Are they using a cable box? Because that means more than one remote as well. They can obviously program a universal or probably even the Comcast remote to act as a universal.
You may want to pick up a cheap Harmony remote due to it's ease of use.
Another option is a sound bar. A million companies make them now but the cheap ones are really terrible. Dialog tends to sound bad. You could always buy one, test it and return it if necessary.
But I would say computer speakers for an easy fix or a sound bar + Harmony remote for a better one.

Well here are some Polk's

or some Mackie's

Given the cost I stand by my original suggestion although I do understand the idea of simple.
