Does Widescreen Material Affect 4:3 Bigscreen?

I was wondering if the black bars on widescreen DVD's and Laserdiscs will burn in to a 4:3 bigscreen TV. If so, how long does it take and is there anything you can do about it.

If you have calibrated your set via Avia or Video Essentials (or similar tool), you lessen the chance of that happening, but it is still possible. It's usually more possible if the contrast and brightness are up too high (like many are from the factory).
Keep those lower, and you'll be better off. But, if you leave anything on the screen for a long time it still will occur. If you watch movies with varying aspect ratios, and don't just leave them paused for an ungodly amount of time, I doubt you'll have a problem.
