I've been into home theater for a while and want to replace my surround speakers. My room is smaller, and I can't get comfortable with spending a lot on replacements. Alas,I'd still like some quality. Has anybody purchased lower priced surrounds? What brand
and what price? What do you like about them?
PS.....Will be connected to a Yamaha 795A.
Thanks!!!

If Radio Shack is still blowing out their LX-5 models with the nifty tweeter for $150 a pair, I think they pretty good. They aren't worth their normal $300 a pair price, but $150 I think they are very good.

Polk R1 bookshelves are on clearance at many outlets, try and see if you can get a pair. I paid 99 Canadian for mine and they beat anything in the price range by a few miles. Also you may want to see if any stores still stock Wharfedale Diamond IV bookshelves, these are more of a longshot but believe me these little puppies sing like nothing else in the price range (I bought a pair on closeout for ~200 CDN). too have had to live in smaller accomadations as part of being a student, so I have had to deal with bookshelf size for the most part. But in the price range you'll want to go with bookshelf as full size speakers in the budget range are almost without fail complete garbage unless you catch a good blowout sale.
