Looking for a decent HDTV.

I have finally decided to make the leap to HD and I am looking for a decent television to make the leap. The only guidelines are:

-Full HD
-32" - 37"
-Preferably under $900.

Thanks for any and all help.

Re: Looking for a decent HDTV.

the only reason you would ever require full HD on a TV that size is if you are using it as a computer monitor or sitting 3' away from it (or if the 1080p version was the same price as the 720p).

do you fit into any of these categories?

why are you limiting yourself to that size? how far away do you sit from it?

It's for my bedroom. I sit less than 10 ft. from my television so I wouldn't think anything bigger than 37" would be necessary.

believe it or not, the optimum distance for a 1080p 70" television is 9'.

If I was you, in a bedroom, 10' away, I would go with a 42" panasonic plasma for $700.

32" or 37" from 10' won't even benefit 720p. you could put an SDTV in and see basically the same picture. am I exaggerating? a little bit. but your eyes can't make out that resolution from that distance.

a 720p Panny Plasma will look better than 99.9% of the 1080p LCDs at that size and it is cheaper.

your original post made it sound like thsi was your first HDTV...period. is that true?

a lot of people buying their first miscalculate screen size. a 37" sounds huge when you come from an SDTV. on a widescreen, its not that big.

Ditto. Wouldn't go anything less than 42" and should be able to find a clearanced 720p/1080p Panasonic plasma (42PX80U
/42PZ80U) for less than $900 without much trouble (presuming stock isn't low since it is close to the 2009 models being released).

If you feel like waiting another 6 weeks or so, the 2009 Panasonic 42" 720p plasma model should be less than $900 at the time of release also.

Not sure of any TV that is "necessary".

I have a 94" screen in my theater room and 1st row of seating is 10.5 feet.

In my living room I have a 46" and sit about 12.5 feet and wish I had I gone bigger.

Nothering smaller then 42". And you don't need 1080p for that size (or smaller) sitting where you are sitting.

I have a 50" Panny in the bedroom. It shrank.

Not positive this is the best price currently but..

http://www.techbargains.com/news_displayItem.cfm/152591

Sears has the Panasonic TH-42PX80U 42" Widescreen Plasma HDTV for a low $599.99. $65 Shipping. Tax in most states.
