Monoprice 4X1 switcher (D-HRM-2214F)

Well mine arrived yesterday. Took a few mins to wire it and get it setup. Functionally, so far no problems handling my PS3, Oppo, or Toshiba HD-A2. Programmed it into my Harmony, but didn't get time to play with that last night. This was good as I expected to have issues since it seems a lot of people have problems with hdmi switchers.

On the negative, it tends to lean backwards once you plug hdmi cables in it. Also, the red blinking lights that constantly switch between ports when the hdmi devices are in use is terrible. Haven't thought of a workaround for that yet, but its definitely distracting in a room at night devoid of light. I don't want to send it back, but it is bad.

Anyone come up with a decent solution?

Black electrical tape.

It blends in perfectly and I haven't had an "annoyance" complaint since.

When the HDMI devices are not in use, it keeps bouncing between ports 1-4 flashing red blinking lights. What a terrible design! I thought about the black tape, but talk about ugly. Mine is on top of my receiver in clear view so I can use it with my Harmony and would look terrible now with tape ugghhh.....

Unless you're staring at your switcher all day, I don't understand how black tape on a black unit would look "terrible".

I'm not exactly wild about the light design either. I didn't put black tape on mine, but I have always followed Chew's advice and don't have any problems with mine.

Re: Monoprice 4X1 switcher (D-HRM-2214F)

Is the model referenced here an auto switcher, i.e., will it automatically sense which device is powered on? I am looking for one that will automatically sense which device is on and switch to it without any user intervention. If this doesn't do it, can someone recommend me one from monoprice that is relatively cheap?

I have this one, the Monoprice HDX-401E, which auto-switches. I love it to death:

Less than $30, but currently out of stock until 1/13.
