i have a surge protector on my electrical panel in my basement and I use and APC battery back-up on my system. basically if the power fails it allows me enough time to shut everything down properly, just like my computer.

Most of us with a stack of equipment have surge protection, at least. If nothing else, you need so many outlets you have to get something. Many with DVRs or projectors have UPS battery backup of some sort.

I use 2 Monster strips, one has 12 outlets, the other has 8. And I don't have enough outlets. I want to add a UPS since I have DVRs, but haven't gotten around to it.

The fancier surge protection units (like from Monster and Panamax) can start to cost quite a bit. Many don't really offer much benefit compared to cheaper units despite what the marketing says. So it's usually best to shop for quality products at a lower price. That link of yours is actually a good price for a product like that, many at that feature level are $300-1000.

A couple products actually reform the electricity, like Monster's Voltage Stabilizer, $1500. They are certainly doing something, and may therefore be worth the price for what they do, but it is probably not something you actually need at your house.
