DVD Recorder/Player which records directly to removable media?

Hey'a,

Newbie here...hope I've selected the appropriate forum. My question is, can you buy a DVD Recorder/Player which records directly to removable media like a usb stick, or a SD card, or some other memory card? I know many Recorders/Players play from removable media, but I really want one which will record to rm. Also, are there DVD Recorders/Players who can do that but do it in AVI format instead of DVD format? And if you know of any, can you post some names so I can look them up?

Thanks folks. Much appreciated.

No. But I bet if we leave it for a while you'll find something and be able to post here and tell us all about it.

There are standalone digital video recorders that record directly to a memory card or USB. For example, here's one from SanDisk that records to a variety of memory cards:

Here's one that records to memorystick or CompactFlash:

And here's one that records to a USB memory stick:

Note that all of these attach to a video device via a composite analog connection for recording. Also, the video quality on all of these may be pretty low compared to the original DVD, as I doubt any of them have strong processors for the encoding process.

You're not going to find a DVD player or recorder with MPEG4 digital recording built it. For one, a DVD player is for playing only, so recording of any kind would be out of the question. Likewise, a DVD recorder is for the recording of DVD, and likely only has a MPEG2 video encoder built in. MPEG4 encoding is more intensive and would add to the cost.

Hey'a Jay,

Thanks so much for those links. I'm checking them out as I type. I appreciate the run down about the quality of recording on these devices too.

Take care,

Me
