Need Help Hooking My New HDTV up to My Receiver!

Hi guys, I just got my first ever HDTV (the Panasonic TH-58PZ800U) and let me first just say, it has surpassed my greatest expectations...unbelievable!

I'm now trying to figure out how to hook everything up to my old Denon non-hdmi receiver. As of now I have my cable box (with built in DVR) hooked directly up to my new TV via an HDMI cable. I then took regular RCA cables and connected them from the TV to my old receiver.

Unfortunately, when I do this, the sound coming out of my speakers is on a one second delay. Is this perhaps because the picture I am watching is coming via the DVR which is on a slight delay from live TV? How can I remedy this? Should I hook the cable box instead directly into the receiver via audio RCA plugs? Thanks in advance for your help guys (I'm very inexperienced with all of this)!

I think this is the back of your set?

I don't see where you can output the sound well from the set. I'd run an optical cable from your cable box to your receiver for the sound.

Edit: I'm at work, and my monitor sucks so I can't read everything in the pic.

The optical is on the top left of the pic. but I think your suggestion to hook it up directly from the cable box would be better.

Alright I tried hooking up the optical both ways (from the TV to the receiver and from the cable box to the receiver) and either way I'm getting the same delays (I hear the sound in my speakers on about a one second delay).

I wonder if it is a problem with the TV or with the receiver? I found another message board in which people are discussing the same problem with another Panasonic plasma. Is there any other way to resolve this that any of you know about? I would imagine that many other people who buy this TV plan to use this with a surround sound system, so there must be some way.

The type of TV shouldn't enter into the equation at all.

Run HDMI from the cable box to the TV, but turn the TV's speakers off or turn the volume down all the way.

Connect the optical digital output from the cable box to your receiver, then use only the receiver for sound.

That's exactly what I did, but unfortunately I still have the delay.

I feel like the tv must be the problem because I didn't have this problem when I had the receiver hooked up to my old tv. However, the cable box is new also (I didn't have an HD one before) so that could also potentially be the culprit.

Do the tv's speakers have the delay also?

I have read about this some where. I think some receivers have the abillity to re-sync with the video. I think it was over at avsforum.com

Ok, I figured out the problem (you guys are going to laugh). I had the cable box plugged into my old non-hd tivo and had the tivo plugged into the receiver (I forgot that I still had it plugged in that way). The Tivo was causing the delay. I told you guys I am new to all of this. Thanks anyway to all of you guys for trying to help me out! Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be back with more questions in the future, lol.

Glad you figured it out.

Just as an aside, whenever I make a change to one of my setups, I always take that chance to review all the of the connections and see if there is a better way or if something can be eliminated.
