Need help with playing 4:3 DVDs
I have an up converting progressive scan DVD player hooked up to a 16:9 HDTV with HDMI. I'm trying to watch a 4:3 DVD, and the image is stretched out to fill in the whole screen. I have the player's settings to 16:9 aspect ratio and original view mode (displays the video as it was recorded). So I'm stumped on what to do.

What's the brand/model of your DVD player?
I have an upconverting Samsumg DVD player. Since it's outputting 720p to the TV, I the zoom settings on the TV don't work. Fortunately, the DVD player has an "EZView" button that switches through various view modes, one of which is pillarboxed for 4:3 material.
Note that this thread is probably better suited in the "DVD & Home Theater Gear" forum. This forum (Tech) is really for everything that's not DVD, Home Theater, or Video Game gear. [Edit: and I guess the mods agreed.]

Sorry, I can't find much info on this player online, so can't help you much further. Read the player's manual and look for an option on the remote or in the player's settings for pillarboxing 4:3 material (although it may not be labelled as "pillarboxing").
