Cooling Your Gear
I am setting up my living room with a media closet and am concerned about keeping everything cool.
The closet is almost totally sealed with 1 hole about 3" in diameter drilled into the basement to pull wires through.
The equipment I will be running is listed in my sig below.
I am trying to figure out a way to keep everything cool. There will be a glass door on the front of the cabinet so it has to look a little bit on the nice side.
I purchased 5 Antec 120mm computer fans from Microcenter in hopes I could use these for cooling. Does anyone know how I would power/control these or can anyone offer any other suggestions for cooling?
Edit: I was also considering using a laptop cool bad that is powered by USB for something like my PS3. Every time the ps3 is turned on, the pad would activate.

Do you have any space behind the closet? I had the same setup and my closet routinely got to 110 inside when the PS3 or 360 was on. I ran this way for about a year. Finally I installed two 120mm fans at the top of the closet and vented them to an empty space. I now run around 80 which is pretty good.
I use this adaptor plugged into my receiver so the fans turn on when the receiver does.

You could vent through the ceiling into space between the joists, especially if your house uses open trusses.

I have the 5 120mm fans coming from Microcenter and this is perfect...it fits 5 fans.
I am custom ordering a door and if i can I am going to get a hollow, framed bottom 1/4 panel with glass on the top 3/4 of the door. I want to insert the stainless radiator vented sheet metal on the bottom of it to vent it right out.
You know anything about IR/remote extenders?

Thanks again.

The IR Sensor runs back to the Connecting Bock. I used CAT5 because I had a bunch left over from my wiring job in the house. If you have more than 4 devices that you need to control you can get double IR Flashers so you can connect 8 devices.

The whole setup is fairly inexpensive and works great!
