Mitsu HC3000 projector with BlueRay
I'm thinking about upgrading to the very best. My HTR projector does 720p, and my component video cables are good for all.
Only down side is I don't buy many movies anymore and upgrading favorites is going to be costly, but can be done over a long period. And for many films the quality is so high already that the players up sampling would be an improvement all in it's own.
I plan to route the signals of my standard DVD and a BlueRay player thru my Yamaha Reciever, and play Casino Royale in both. I should be able to switch between the 2 with a single button push.
Will I see any difference?
Best Buy has been informed (sales guy at least) that I will most likely be buying to test, and he assures me that I can return anytime in 30 days. Pretty cool!

I have a 720p projector and 94" screen. I have a very good up converting player and a BD player. I have repeated buying the POC only for testing. I use a HDMI switcher, so it was easy to switch between the two.
Can I see a difference? Yes. But it is not in the area of resolution. It is more in the area of color, dark areas and depth (more 3-d effect). If I froze the images and focused on some high detail item, I "think" I could see the resolution difference, but again color, dark details and 3-d effect was more noticeable.
I will warn you, when I first got the BD player I was disappointed. I had to re-calibrated by pj for the bd player. It took no where near the same settings as my up converting player

Excellant information. Also confirmed with a AV nut friend of mine. I'll pick up an upconverting DVD player in the next couple of days, and be happy with my standard DVD library.

LOL...I wasn't saying not to get BD! I was saying there is a difference. Especially in color and depth. Is it night and day difference? Of course not.
And remember my up converting player is an excellent unit. It is currently a Toshiba HD A3. Yup a HD player. That is my every day player. I also have a Sony PS3 for BD.

I have a Panny 700 (720p) projecting onto a 126" Carada screen.
My upconverting DVD player is a Pio Elite DV59-AVi.
Back in November, I Purchased a Toshiba HD-DVD player (A2? - since sold). I compared HD-DVD's played on the Toshiba to upconverted SD DVD's from both the Pio and the Toshiba itself. There were slight differences, but really nothing major. In fact, I had some people over and we were watching Bourne Ultimatum on HD-DVD. Half way through the movie, we took a little break (get beverages, etc.) and when everyone stepped out, I switched to the SD version. When the movie resumed, nobody noticed any difference. After about 5 minutes, I switched told them and switched back to the HD-DVD. They said "Oh yeah, this one looks a bit better", but without me pointing it out, they would never have noticed.
I'm not waiting until I upgrade my projector to get a Blu-ray player in there.
