Aspect Ratio Problem on PS3
I feel stupid asking this, as it should not be hard to figure out. I just recently bought a PS3, hooked up with HDMI to a Sony 60", I believe model 60A3000, or something like that. But what is happening is the aspect ratios of 1:85:1 are being displayed as 1:66 and 2:35 are showing as 1:85. I have the PS3 setup as Letterbox, and the TV is set to 16:9. I've thought this was the problem, so I changed the PS3 to Pan and Scan, but that didn't fix anything. When I set the TV to normal, I get black bars on the top and sides, so that doesn't fix anything.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have the 50-inch version of your TV, so I can tell you for sure that the aspect ratio setting on the TV should be "Full." From there, you just need to try different settings in the PS3, or maybe someone who has a PS3 can help you.

The setting for letterbox/pan and scan only takes effect when the TV type is set to 4:3 under Display Settings -> Video Output Settings. However, with HDMI it forces it to 16:9, so you really shouldn't be having this problem if the TV is set correctly. You may also want to check to make sure the supported resolutions are selected (720p, 1080i/p). Perhaps only 480p is checked, and the TV is displaying it natively rather than scaling it.
BTW, if the discs that aren't displaying properly are non-anamorphic DVDs, what you're seeing is normal, and you'll have to use the TV's zoom setting to correct for those.

I was going to say the same thing. I have a 52 In Toshiba and "full" is the correct setting.
