Playstation 2/Projector Help (plus future question about the PS3)

I've got a weird problem. I have the Optoma HD70 projector. I decided to hook up the Playstation 2 and play it. It's hooked up with component cables. While I can play PS2 games on it fine, I get no picture when I try to play PS1 games. I can hear the sound (running through the receiver), but no picture. It gets as far as the Playstation logo, then reverts to a "no signal" message. Thoughts? Help?

And the follow-up question: I'm planning on getting a PS3 sometime, and hook it up through the HDMI port. Will I have the same problem?

Thanks.

I don't know why PS1 games would make a difference.

I have a PS3 hooked up to my HD70 via HDMI via a monoprice switcher. I'm never had a problem with movies (blu-ray or SD), PS3 games or PS2 games. Never had a PS1 so haven't tried that.

Sometimes if there is no signal going to the HD70 it will cycle thru all inputs looking for a signal. That is the only thing I can think is happening.

It sounds like he's playing a PS game on the PS2, not using the original system.

I have no idea what the problem is, but you won't have an issue with the PS3. It will output everything as 480p or higher over HDMI, and can upscale PS and PS2 games.

Try pressing the right arrow key on the remote to re-sync, to see if that does anything.

Tried pushing the resync button...no good. This is weird, because I had it hooked up to my Panasonic HDTV and it played just fine over component cables.
