Corded tv headphone that plugs to audio conection on tv?

I want a good corded headphone that plugs into the back of a tv's audio connection (red and white). The tv doesn't have a freaking normal headphone connection or at least I can't find it on the damn antique. Is there one that can be gotten at a retail store?

I know the cordless ones plug to the audio conections, but I haven't had good experience with the sound quality. I need these things bc my temporary living situation requires that if I want to watch a movie at a decent level i need to use headphones.

Any help would be very appreciated. TIA.

Are you sure the red and white connections on the TV are outputs and not inputs?

And if they are outputs, they're going to be line-level outputs, which means 1) The volume won't be adjustable, and 2) They won't be amplified and therefore won't be enough to drive a set of headphones to any sort of satisfactory volume.

Beyond that, you won't find headphones with RCA connectors on the cable. You'd need to go to Radio Shack and get an adapter cable that converts whichever type of plug your headphones have (quarter-inch or eighth-inch mini) to RCA.

You'll need a way to do the amplification, as Mr. Salty said. A basic stereo receiver or even an old boombox with "line in" inputs will have a headphone jack and provide both amplification and volume control.

If your headphones have a low enough impedance, you can probably get away with running them off of line outputs. I jury-rigged an RCA-to-headphone cable for my TV using a male-to-male RCA cable connected to an RCA-to-1/8 in adapter connected to an inline volume control knob. It wasn't the most elegant looking thing, but I pieced it together for around $10 at Radio Shack and it drove my Koss headphones just fine.

That said, I needed to add a small headphone amp into the mix when I got my Sennheisers.

so basically...they don't make em. i would have to do more than just a simple connection. and wouldn't the volume just adjust as the tv volume adjusts? why do they have cordless headphones that plug into audio outs and not corded? are the cordless reliable? i got one once and the reception was just plain awful with hiss and static no matter what.
thanks guys!

No, the volume control on your TV controls its internal speakers. The line-level outputs are designed to send a signal to something like a receiver or amplifier, and you'd do the volume adjustment using the amplifier or receiver's controls.

The cordless headphones will have their own built-in volume control. There are good cordless headphones out there, but I don't have enough experience with them to make a recommendation.

Probably because the cordless will have a built-in amplifier just to function, so it works with a TV by coincidence. Regular headphones are intended for use with a device that has variable output, like a Discman or iPod or receiver. TVs are intended to be used either with their own speakers or a receiver. You can buy separate headphone amps that would make it work with a TV.

The TVs I've experienced that had audio output usually had the choice of variable or fixed. I've only seen small TVs (presumably portable) with actual headphone outputs.
