Is "PC DVI" different from "DVI"?

My TV has an input labeled "PC DVI." I'm thinking about buying an HD DVD player, and I want to know if I will be able to upconvert SDVDs. There is no other digital input on my TV (such as HDMI), just the PC DVI. (tv is the Westinghouse w33001). So is this the same thing as DVI?

Question number 2: If the input I have is in fact DVI, I will need to use an HDMI > DVI converter, as the HD player I plan to get has no DVI output. Will use of such a converter degrade picture quality in any way?

EDIT: On second thought, do they make cables with HDMI on one end and DVI on the other?

Thanks.

Can't answer about the DVI and PC DVI (Im pretty sure they are the same as far as your TV is concerned but there are others here who know better than I)...

There shouldn't be any degrade in the picture quality, but there are handshake issues with certain players and the conversions (I've had this at times, but only when it comes to the order of which I turn certain components in my HT on). And they do make a cord that has HDMI on one end and DVI on the other, thats what I use.

Well, I got my HD DVD player, and the HDMI-DVI cable doesn't work with my tv. When I switch to DVI input on my tv, it says it's detected, but it doesn't show a picture.

Perhaps it doesn't decode HDCP?

There are several differences. The main issue is the resolutions that may be recognized by the TV. A port labeled PC-DVI may not recognize 720p or 1080i may recognize 1024x768. I wouldn't bet on it handling HDCP either.

I have a Westinghouse TV that has this issue.

In addition, there may not be any configuration options.

My Mits. has PC-DVI inputs, but there is no video adjustments available for that input.
