Help me choose a HDTV

had to edit because my post was too messy.

the room it's going in:
-not too bright(if curtains are closed)(does have a pretty big window tho).
-i'll be sitting 2-10 feet away from it

what i need it for:
-gaming (playstation 2 at the moment, playstation 3 probably by december)
-standard dvd's.
-comcast cable.

Questions:
-do standard channels/dvd's look like crap on hdtv's ?
-if i buy a warranty for a plasma, does it cover burn in?
-is the "slow down" on lcd's that bad/noticeable?(what is the best "ms" available?)
-does the picture on lcd's really look that much worse if yu view it from a different angle?
-do i need 1080p for a 42" hd?

i've heard that recent lcd's are doing a better job with black colors now.
i've also heard that plasma burn in problems are greatly reduced now.

it seems that an lcd would fit my need better due to no burn in, but i've reaad that plasma colors are better. my main concern is the slow down with lcd's. i have no idea what to get, i dont want to regret my purchase down the line.

i'm looking for around 42". i'll spend up to $1400. but if it's really worth i'll pay a couple hundred more.

hope that's enough info, if not let me know.

thanks in advance!!!!!!

i'm looking for around 40" - 42". i'll be watching standard dvd's on it. i'll be playing ps2(ps3 pretty soon). i've heard that there is some problem when watching fast scenes on a lcd, what is that all about? i've also heard that a lcd is better for gaming. how are my standard comcast channels going to look? do i need one of those hd boxes from comcast? how are standard dvds going to look(is a upconverting player neccesary?) i've been reading alot about both formats and it seems as if an lcd would fit my sitaution better, but i am concerned about the slow down issue(is it really that bad/noticeable?)i looked at samsung, vizio, and philips today. what are the best brands and which format(model) would you suggets for all the things that i'll be using it for? looking to spend up to 1400, or a little more if it's really worth it.

thanks in advance!!!!!!

after those saracstic answers, i'll give you a few straight ones, but you really should look at those threads. what you're asking is truely varied and the answers will depend upon specific conditions and you haven't given enough information.

however, given the little information you have mentioned i'd say plasma is what you want. look at the 42" pansonic and samsung models. both are around $1200-1400. you canlikely find them for less online, but make sure you go with an authorized reseller. the usual applies for returns etc. for b&m v online.

Do those actually exist now? Or are they still 1024x768 oddballs?
