Receiver recommendation pls?

I am looking to buy a receiver that will let me play the uncompressed 5.1 audio on my blu-ray dvds. I bought one based on a recommendation from a friend but after I bought it and hooked it up, I realized that it would not play the uncompressed audio but only regular 5.1 through a coax or optical cable.

any recommendations? thanks

Someone correct me, but I thought to play the newer formats you either had to use HDMI or Analog outputs.

Do you have a stand alone blu-ray player or a PS3?

Am I right that the new formats only play over HDMI or Analog, but not over optical/coaxial?
