HD Newbie With a Few Questions
Forgive my ignorance but I've spent well over a month reading various articles, reviews, etc. I'm having 1/2 my basement refinished to a media room which is approx 11'x20' and the only thing I've decided on for a tv is the Sony KDL-52XBR2. Anyway, any input would be appreciated and hope this isn't too much to post.
1) Is Verizon FIOS (fiberoptic) the best choice for HD? My house currently has Directv and not sure I want the hassle to redo everything. Dont care about sports, news, or even "Scrubs" on HD, would probably just watch discovery etc. so its not really my main set for tv but prefer movies on dvd. So I'm leaning to just get satellite put in down there.
2) Read very mixed reviews on 7.1 audio receivers, a number said its not necessary. My 5.1 upstairs sounds great to me. What bout 6.1?
3) Should I be looking for a blu ray plaer that can handle support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks? Was considering the Panasonic DMP-BD10A.
4) Finally, any recommendations for cabinets, wall furniture?
Thanks in advance, my head has been spinning since this all started! Work on the room stars mid august...aye!

1) FIOS, by all accounts, is excellent. And Scrubs ain't in HD, so NBD. But antenna is the best place to get HDTV, assuming you don't live in a hole or something.
2) 6.1 and 7.1 are the same thing at this point. 7.1 is kinda nice, but not a huge deal. Most receivers offer it these days, but you certainly don't have to use it. I like it for several DVDs, meanwhile I have hundreds of DVDs.
3) The Panny is the best BD player currently selling. IF you are looking for a BD player, then you should be looking for one that can handle all the audio formats. I won't necessarily say you should be looking for a BDp right now, though.
4) Built-in closet so everything is hidden. And a projector with a 90" screen (assuming you are putting the TV on the 11' wall) instead of a 52". You'll like the size more than the 1080 resolution. And you can save two grand and buy better speakers.

While having 1080p is great (my friend has a 1080p set 52" set) He still prefers watching movies on regular dvd's on the 92" screen I have. Which is the cheapest 720p projector around.
