LCD v Plasma

Traditionally, I've been a plasma fan. The pictures just look that much better to me. Brighter, crisp and very good black/white representations. I do have a Dell W2300 (about 4 years old), but I've never been in much of a situation to use it for HDTV extensively.

I'm wondering if anybody has had any first hand experience in buying lately comparing the two. I know they've come a long way. I do look at them in the store, but we know what that amounts to...

Right now Woot has the 46" Westinghouse LCD for $1,200 + $5.00 shipping. I have been looking at this set for a while. Great price.

Personally I prefer plasma. However 50" is a little big for the living room and 42" is to small.

The Panny plasmas are just darn hard to beat and a great deal from recent price drops. IMHO, you would have to spend much more to get a pic as close or better then the panny plasma's. There are some who really like the nice Sony/Sharp LCD's but anywhere near 50" in size is 35%-60% more then the panny's.

I have not had the opportunity to see the nice Sony or Sharp LCD's set up well. I have seen the panny plasma's set up well and think they are some of the best pic's I have seen. And a great price!

Elsewhere, in different threads, I described my experience with both! About 1 1/2 months ago (approx.) I tested the top-tiers in each category after I went on the market looking for a 5-6K high-performance set. The three sets I tested at home were:

Plasma Pioneer-HD1
Panni-Plasma
SONY-XBR3-LCD (1080p)

The one set I did not get to play with was the new line SHARP introduced!

I ended up buying the XBR3.

What is your budget?

Oh, I'm not actively buying at the moment. Really just wondering.

An odd thing is that the Pio and Panny are both flat, but you went with the Sony which is a good 12 inches, deep, no?

I, personally, am not a plasma fan. The pictures are usually good, but.............
Everyone I've seen, has the shiny screen, and reflect everything in the room. I hate that! That's the main reason I want to get rid of my 36" CRT. Plasmas also still have the chance of Burn-In.

At first, I didn't like LCDs either. They all had pictures that looked fuzzy, even in HD. But the new 1080p LCD sets look great. I would choose an LCD over a plasma, but I'd choose an LCoS (Sony SXRD or JVC HD-ILA) over all of them.
Of course, this is just my opinion.
