I have a dilemma right now, as to a TV I am looking to pick up. As my wife and I were at Best Buy, we saw a Samsung 61" DLP 1080P TV and were thoroughly impressed with it. I was getting so excited at looking at the picture. Then, I turn around and I see GOD(aka a 65" Panasonic Plasma TV). I was absolutely floored with the clarity and amazing picture quality. That is what I think of, when I think of high definition, not DLP. THe Panasonic is $9,000 and the Samsung Rear Projection DLP is only $2,500. Yes, I liked the DLP UNTIL I saw what I was missing. I'm so torn right now. Yes, I could afford it without breaking the bank, but I don't know. I know if I got the DLP I would complain to no end because its not the best. I am one of those people that has to have the best.

What do you think, am I really being too anal about this. Is the 65" Plasma(which would be amazing hung in my livingroom) worth it?

Well, if you won't be happy with-out "the best" I guess you already made your decision.
One the other hand you could get 3 Samsung sets, a HD-DVD and BD player and come out the same!

I thought you (Dalvin) were thinking about LCOS (Sony SXRD)? I'd personally stay away from DLP because of the possibility of rainbows or headaches, and plasmas that size are way too expensive right now, so I don't think they are "worth it".

Yes, Plasmas that big are way too expensive. I want that one so badly though. Yes, I was thinking about Sony , but I'm starting to hate Rear- Projection. Any idea, when a 60" Plasma might come down to about $4,000?

Are you sure it was the "better" picture you liked or the "bigger" picture you liked?

I would think that if you had room and lighting for a 61" DLP or 65" Plasma, that you would have room for a.....wait for it.....

I realize there are pluses and minuses to every technology and system (I have said so many a time), but seriously if you got the room/lighting for that, look at a FP. Much less expensive and really brings you into the movie experience at a much better price point and because of that, much more future proofed (IMHO).

I totally agree. Having a front projector for night time (my image is more than 130"!!!) is amazing. You can also put a small flat panel in the room for during the day, great combo!

Well, the DLP sets are rear projection too. But between DLP and SXRD, I would (and did) take SXRD.

You can get plasma for a lot less than the Pioneer. Have a look at the Panasonics.

Not quite 60", but you can get a Panny 58" plasma for under $4,000. I'm not even sure if this is the best available price, but www.onecall.com has the TH-58PX600U for $3,699 and the TH-58PX60U for $3,199.

Night time??? With todays pj I'm not sure you have to restrict your viewing to night time unless you can four walls of windows and a couple of skylights all with no coverings.

Even my new HD70 which can be had for around $900 does fairly well. When we had our super bowl party we were going from the bar to the media room and I left the lights up a fair amount and still had an excellent image.

I read an article just today dealing with the perception of image quality. The researchers found that the vast majority of people do just this... rate their preference for the picture on size instead of actual image quality.

Well it was a Panasonic Plasma and was 65" and was 1080p. The colors just stood out so much more than the the 61" Samsung DLP. It looked like reds came out alot better than that Samsung. However, the Samsung at $2,500 is definetly the one I could afford to buy out of pocket right now(no financing needed). Does anyone have this exact model or close to it. How is the picture quality?

I played this keyboard, and loved it. Not all the bells and wistles of say a Motif 8, but certainly fine for what I need. The only think I didn't see was a sheet music stand. It didn't specify if it came with one or not.

There's no competition between Plasma and DLP in my opinion. Plasma and LCD, maybe.

Plasma rules. I have a Panny 42" and it's awesome. You just can't get a picture like this on a projection tv.

As for DvdJosh's 42 inch plasma for $2000+ hows that 1024 x 768 or 852 x 480 working for ya...lol I'd take a pass. Least the model he wants is real high def spec pixel wise. But $9000 for tiny ass 65 inch I don't care what tech it is...but shit man you got $9000 to blow why you here typing go get it already.

That panny is one of the best overall pictures on the market. If I needed a small set, I would take that in a heart beat. It is an awesome set and with the price drop around Thanksgiving/Christmas makes it an excellent deal.

However, the OP is looking for the 60" to 65" which I'm assuming means he wants to be more immersed in the movie.

Watching a movie is more then about resolution. It really is an emotional experience. What personally impresses you? For some the ultra sharp, excellent black levels or your panny. For others, it is a huge screen so that you get lost in the movie or event. It is very tough to get both without spending a ton right now.

That is why I suggest a good 720p front projector. No I would not dare to compare the black levels to your 42" plasma. But with my 94" screen I'm able to lose myself in the movie or event. It is like being at a theater. It is a total experience, not a single item experience.

A good solid FP is around $900. Spend $400 on a screen or build your self for $150 add about $50 for longer cables from monoprice, and $75 for a few wall plates, ceiling mount, etc and you have an excellent set up for a fraction of the money. And in two to three years when 1080p drops for projectors you can upgrade. And 1080p on a front projector is something you are likely to see a difference in....

Lol at one of the top rated plasmas on the market? and i never heard DVDJosh mention anything about it being 2k. The 42" Panasonic plasma is around $1300 right now.

I have the 50" version and I will take that over a 1080p LCD any day of the week. I will even take it over any 50" DLP or LCOS any day.

let's not start a conversation about "true" HD and resolution. i have those conversations with best buy employees.
