Subtitle Problem: TV, DVD Player, Receiver?
I am trying to watch a DVD and my subtitles are looking all pixelated:
Is this an issue with the TV, DVD Player, or Reveiver (or some combination)?
TV - Panasonic TH-42PX60U
DVD Player - OPPO DV-970HD
Receiver - Onkyo HT-S894
TV Player connected to the receiver via HDMI
DVD Player connected to the receiver via HDMI
Thanks for the help.

Do the subs on all your DVDs look like that? I would think that it would be a DVD player (or connection) issue more than a TV or receiver one, but I don't know what would cause that.

Try a different connection to see what happens, like Svideo. Try different resolutions on the upconversion to see what happens. Mabye you can narrow it down. I would guess player, but with the digital connection it could theoretically be any of the three machines.

I tried hooking the player directly to the TV using S-Video and still had the same issue.
So I got in touch with Oppo about it and they are having me send it back to them since they have not seen a problem like it before. A bit of a hassle, but if gets me a player that works I am fine with it.

Is this new or refurb? I have the refurb and I haven't seen this on mine. Only thing I've seen is sometimes a part of the lower character that is missing, like a ygqpj, etc. Which reminds me to check to see if it's universal on all my discs.

It's on its was to Cali right now, so hopefully they will be able to fix it or send me a new one (this one is less then a month old).
I am still not a 100% sure it is simply the player.
