Interference problem

Hooked up a Sony SD player with HDMI output to the DVI of my Sony HDTV(no HDMI ON TV). The HDMI to DVI cable is a 6' RCA. When connecting the seperate RCA audio cables to tv all I get is a loud hum. When watching dvd on the player there is a faint vertical bar in background that passes right to left about once per second. Also since I hooked it up the local cable channels(3,4,6,8 SD direct to coaxial input of tv) are being interferred with(even with the unit off). I've fooled around with connections and making sure various cables/cords aren't laying across each other. Could the power strip have anything to do with it.
Picture from player/tv is fantastic otherwise and no audio issues through receiver.

Is your cable line grounded? Should be done outside. That may be causing the line on the TV. Sounds like you may have connected the audio incorrectly.
