And is one better than another for an elderly person who needs big and clear to see better? We are talking basic 40"-42", non HDTV, etc. Cheap (please specify brand) also. Just need a basic basic for a nice old man.
Also, is there a good place online to order and have it shipped where the shipping isn't as much as the tv?
Thanks for all...

Only plasma in this size is available in non-HD. Since they all have essentially the same resolution choices (either 480, 720, or 1080), comparable models have essentially the same visibility at whichever level you want. Plasma has a bit better contrast still, and is cheaper. Probably that's the answer, plasma.
I suppose that (assuming the same size TV) the EDTVs will have more visibility for SDTV content since the pixels will be bigger. Just like switching back to 640x480 on a PC monitor, everything is bigger. But the future is HD content, which looks great on HDTVs. The HD content itself is much clearer/visible than SD content, so upgrading is usually a good idea.
