Question for Oppo DVD player owers

I got an Oppo DV-970HD a week or so ago. Wonderfull DVD player, i must say.

Do you guys keep your player in 720p or 1080i? My TV can handle both, yet it's hard for me to tell the difference visually.

Most folks can't tell the difference. The best rule of thumb is to output at your TV's native resolution.

I have a sony kv-30hs420 CRT. What would it's native mode be then?

Both. My TV outputs at 540p and 1080i, so I keep the TV and the player at 1080i.

If I set the player to 720p and the TV to 540p, that wouldn't be "native".

At least, that's my limited knowledge. I could be wrong.

CRTs are usually 1080i. But I do know of some that *can* display 720p natively, but you might as well squeeze out the extra resolution.

Native would be 1080i or possibly 480p. The Oppo probably should be set to 1080 for that TV. But if it doesn't look any different, it hardly matters.
