Slingbox help? Can't find slingbox

I just got a slingbox. I am using a linksys wrt54gs router, and a newly purchased wga54g wireless game adapter. I set up the wireless game adapter by connecting it to my computer as instructed, I put in my WEP phrase, checked the hex code etc. Everything seems like it should connect to my network. So I connected it to the slingbox. All 3 lights on it light up. But when I run the Slingbox software it says it can't find the slingbox.

I'm not sure what else to try as there are no specific instructions (the slingbox info bascially just says connect it). Can anyone offer any suggestiosn?

TIA,

dg7

Ok. I've learned one more thing. THe repeater is working. I disconnected my computer from the router and plugged it into the repeater and could still access the internet. Given that, I'm wondering if the slingbox is defectvie, since all you do is connect it to the repeater and connect a video cable to it. No settings or anything. Not sure what could go wrong.

Hey there. First off, check out this link if you haven't already:

http://www.slingmedia.com/community/

The forums and FAQs there were pretty helpful when I was setting up my Slingbox. I initially tried a setup like yours (router and a game adapter). I only got it working (sort of) after my failed first attempt by resetting the Slingbox to factory settings (there's a reset button on the back of the Slingbox), then connecting the Slingbox directly to the router via Ethernet cable, then re-running the setup program. Then I connected the Slingbox to my Tivo in the other room and hooked up the wireless adapter to it. It worked, but the signal kept dropping out every so often. So...the first step to try (if you've configured the router settings and all that already) would be to repeat the initial setup process with the Slingbox directly connected to the router, instead of using the wireless connection.

In my case, in order to get reliable performance, I had to use an Ethernet cable directly connecting the router and the Slingbox. Luckily I already had a cable running to my PlayStation 2 (which is right near the Tivo), so I just swapped the cable from the PS2 over to the Slingbox. That improved the quality of the streaming picture immensely. If you can possibly run a cable, that's the best solution. But if your wireless network is solid, you should be able to get it working with your current setup. You can always try the "start from scratch" approach - reset the Slingbox and wireless adapter to factory settings and start over again. If you get really stuck, search the forums or make a post there - some of the Slingbox developers post there, and seem to know their stuff. Good luck, and keep us posted!

I also recommend the SlingCommunity Forum, lots of help there too. The original SlingPlayer software didn't work with my DVR at first, but after upgrading to the Beta Version as suggested on that forum, all works great!! I love this thing.

I also got the idea to buy a cheap security cam and connect it to the cable input on the Slingbox that I wasn't using. Now I can watch my DVR and with the click of a couple buttons, I can be watching my home while I'm away. Sweet.

Thanks. I finally got it to work by resetting the slingbox. I have to reset the game adapter every couple of days and my picture has excess color blocks but it works pretty well. I'm working with Slingbox people to figure the color excess issue out.
