Receiver/Speaker purchase evaluations
I have been researching products for a bit now, and I have decided to abandon the Htib, instead I have decided to purchase a Yamaha HTR-5940SL receiver. However, I am still unsure of the speakers. I do not want to invest into paradigms or others which cost way too much My budget is around $500 for speakers. I did listen to the Bose center speaker VCS 10, I liked it a lot, however it was made of plastic and have heard some critics of bose. I was just curious if anyone out there has speaker recommendations to fit the budget, and/or comments about my choice of receiver. Unfortunately most of the stores I Went to to inspect speakers there setup looked inadequate. Also it would be hard to find a setup using the receiver I chose.
Here are the specs for the reciever:

Here are my comments and they are the same everytime this question comes up.
Go out and listen to speakers, lots of them. Listen to them with material you are familiar with and decide what fits your space and your budget. Then after you have chosen your speakers, buy the receiver.
As for suggestions, NHT is a good place to start, also check Polk, Boston Acoustics and Infinity.

I cannot recommend these enough. I have two sets and use one set in my main media room. I don't know how they will sound with your receiver, but with the 30 return policy from BB I'd give it a shot,
