How old is YOUR DVD player?

How old is your primary DVD player...the one you use to watch most of your movies? I think I might have the oldest one here. I have...and still use...an old Toshiba SD-2108 I bought way back in December 1998.

I just bought a multi region SD 6980 but I think I might be having power supply problems with it. It turned on okay, I started to make some settings changes to use widescreen, etc. and just as I popped the disc tray to load a disc to test the player, the player died and it won't turn on at all now.

Panasonic RV80 - about five or six years old - works just as well today as when I first bought it. Bought it for $299 (from an overnight price drop from $399) from Overstock when they had their sweet free overnight shipping. Beautiful component picture.

I was using a Panasonic RP-82 since September 2002, but 2 days ago I got the Oppo Digital OPDV971H which is now region free thanks to a code I entered with the remote.

I have a Sanyo that I bought back in December. I've also got the first player I bought back in October 2002 but that's mainly a backup now.

My Malata is about 4 years old, I believe. It's not like me to let something like this last this long without replacing it but with the whole BR/HD-DVD thing, I don't want to jump on another. I already have a dvd-recorder as well and I don't want to have 3 different DVD machines at this point...but I have a feeling I might have to.

I have my Philips 727 still which is about 4 years old, my LIO dvd recorder that is 1.5 years old and my Oppo which I got in November. My in-laws have my original dvd player I got in '99, which still works (and the service agreement I got with it is still active) plus my Sony I got a year later to replace that one.

Denon 2900, 3 years old, region free. I had a Malata but its power supply blew up. Literally. Won't replace the 2900 until something is made with superior audio & video, under $1000.

I had a Panasonic RP-82 for the longest time, it died...so I bought a Pioneer recently (6 months ago if that) and it seems to be doing the trick.

I have a JVC rx-dv3, bought it refurbished about 4 years ago. Love the Player, but now I want one that connects using the DVI cable. I can't wait to see my HDTV with a signal with signal from my DVD player with a DVI connection.

The rx-dv3 gives a great signal with the Component cables, but the video quality is going to improve with the DVI cable.

I'm not sure if that's necessarily true if you have progressive component signals

Mine's a Pioneer DVL-909 DVD/Laserdisc player, made in Feb 1998, in service since August of that year. Modded for region select and no Muckrovision, and very rarely has problems. It can even play recorded dual-layer discs, which some newer players can't play. At this point it's gotta hold out until the HD formats get their act together, then it'll probably get used just for LDs after that.

I have a Sony DVP-CX995V which I bought late last year. Love it, though it is HUGE and takes a long time going between discs.

I have a Sammy HD850 that's about 6/7 months old and a Philips 642 for my all region needs that is about 1 1/2 yrs old. Beyond those I have a cheapo APEX I use in the bedroom that is easily 5yrs old.

I had to finally retire my original "Early Adopter" DVD player. My $700 Panasonic 5 Disc DVD/CD player with surround sound speakers, tape deck and radio that I picked up in early '98. That sucker died quick but lasted just long enough for me to get an Xbox for my DVD needs at the time.

My Sony DVP-NC85H is only about 3 weeks old but I still use my Toshiba SD-3109(bought in Dec of '99) in my bedroom.
