DVD burner recommendation

Can someone recommend the brand of DVD burner (and associated software) most likely to read DVD+Rs that won't read on my DVD player? I have several dozen DVD+Rs created and finalized on a Magnavox DVD Recorder/VCR combo unit that died. However, the machine I replaced it with, an LG combo unit, won't read the DVD+Rs. Someone has suggested ripping and re-burning them on my computer with a DVD burner. Will this work? What equipment and software do I need?

My stepfather has a Gateway stand-alone dvd recorder. He transfered home movies from VHS to dvd. His Gateway played them. His cheap $30-$40 Magnavox player played them. My computer won't play them, even though it plays all other +R's. My Pioneer player won't play them, even though it plays all other +R's. So it's kinda hard to say specificly, what brand will work for you...........
Sorry I can't say for sure. Good luck!
