Direct Tv help needed
My parents have Direct TV and they want to get the HD. The guy in Best Buy told them they might need a new dish. Now I honestly know nothing about Direct TV(I have Comcast) so what do they need to get HD? I believe they have an Oval dish 2 if that helps. Oh and they do have a HD TV already before anyone asks
Can you guys help me?

Yes they need an elliptical dish with 3 lnb's and an hd box. They would also need to subscribe to the hd package.
Here is the info from direct tv

Wow. $10.99 a month seems pretty steep.

Well, they can probably get that package for 6 months free or at half price just by asking. But most HD content is actually from the broadcast networks. A simple antenna along with the DirecTV box can get these channels for many people.
It can be a little complicated, unfortunately.

Well for what DirecTV is offering right now in HD for $10.99 it is sort of steep. However, w/in the next year DirecTV is going ot have 2 new birds in the air and HD channels should be popping up more and more.

I used to subscribe to the $10.99 package and don't believe it's worth it. There are a very limited number of channels that show the same things over & over.
But even without subscribing to the HD package, you can still get HBO & Showtime HD channels via the oval dish. Provided of course that you subscribe to them already. And local networks via antenna.

i sold hd directv for 4 years and no matter what is offered on the dish the selling point was ALWAYS a local antenna tuned to pick up high def local broadcast channels.... if you are in an area fortunate enough to have strong signal from local high def stations than TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT.... get the old school huge channel master antenna for the roof, a rotor with remote and digital display, and go to town.... can't beat it.
