Is your player in progressive mode with a non-HDTV?

The last day i pressed the progressive scan button on the dvd remote control and it stopped, however 1 day after when i switched it back on,it started jumping again. How do i know if it is in prog.mode and how do i get out of it?Do you think this may be the problem?

Well, it certainly sounds like that is it. An analog TV isn't compatible with progressive and will show it as a scanning mess like you described. The player shouldn't default to progressive, it should stick with whatever the last setting was. Usually there is a light or word on the DVD player that says when progressive is on. But that is model-dependent obviously and I don't know your model. Manual should tell you.
