I am looking for a cheap but decent quality HD Tube TV for my bedroom. I am getting it since I will need a HDTV to connect the XBOX360 to when it come out around thanksgiving. I am thinking of a tube TV that is 16:9 and atleast 34" I am not worried about getting a top brand as long as the quality is decent since this is just a bedroom TV. currently I have a 4:3 32 inch non HDTV there.

Not only that, but he just described the most expensive CRT HDTV imaginable.

I may have to go for a 30" or get a 4:3 tv. I looked around and the TV's the size and aspect ratio I described are too expensive. I am either going to have to go for a 30" 16:9 or a slightly larger 4:3. I am torn because all the XBOX 360 games will be in widescreen but a 30" widescreen just seems too small to me. I am trying to keep it under 1000.

Samsung isn't bad and they are often cheaper than other big names.

You'd be surprised how big a 30" actually is compared to a WS image on a 27" screen. You can routinely get the Samsung 30" WS HDTV for under $600 at best buy, even better open box.

You can see exactly what your screen real estate will be in 4:3 and 16:9. I used a similar site when I picked out my HDTV. I was looking at either a 36" 4:3, or a 34" 16:9 CRT. I ended up with the 36" one, because the widescreen image would be the equivilant of a 33" set, whereas 4:3 material on the 34" set would've been only 28".

thanks for the info. I might look for a 36" 4:3 since it will give me more screen than a 30" 16:9 and I cant afford a 34" 16:9 unless they have a super sale on one.

Look at Wal-Mart's Sanyo's - 30" or 32".

Not anymore BA, the new Sanyo models are teh suck. They don't even have advanced inputs!!

This will cheese you off even more - 28" is the new 30" (WS model). And the picture sucks.

I was actually in the store when their tech guy was setting up the new models. I told him my impressions and he agreed.

Why do people continue going to Walmart? The extra $50/year I spend buying stuff at Target or the grocery store is worth it to NOT be at Walmart. I end up going there about 3-5 times a year just for items I can't find elsewhere. And I hate every second of it.

I don't care for Wal-Mart one bit, it's full of hoosiers and what-not. But I had read about the 30" on AVS for months, then my brother-in-law bought the tv when it dropped in price the first time and when I saw it dropped in price again - I jumped all over it. I much prefer Target, but there isn't one in my town.

You mentioned you thought 30" would be too small. I thought so too when I saw it in the store. However, once I got it home (a Westinghouse 30" LCD), it definitely was fine. Just curious, why are you looking for a tube as opposed to LCD?

Sorry, our family of four save at least $100 per MONTH on grocery's at Super Walmart vs. grocery store. We would save even more, but we don't buy the fresh fruits and veggies at Wal-Mart, not near as fresh in my experience.

And the Walmart by us installed self check out lanes, so we do that and the checking out is quick and easy. Only real bothersome thing is the parking lot is always full, but for $100 per month, can live with it.

Wal-Mart is pretty irrelevant to this guy's question, wouldn't you say?

Can you still buy a 4:3? I don't remember seeing any of these for some time now in various showrooms. Maybe they are still there and I am not noticing them.
