Stoopid question about connecting DVD

Okay, the coax comes from
the cable outlet to the cable box,
then to the VCR (yes I still have one, you bastards)
then to the TV.

Can I put the DVD player in there somewhere so I can have both on one TV?

Outlet to the box
to the vcr
to the DVD adapter
to the TV and the DVD player

Or should the DVD player come first?

Yes, thank you, I am a maroon.

I assume your tv does not have any other inputs besides coax? If you have other inputs such as composite, rca, etc that would be the easiest way to connect everything. Post back what you have to work with such as inputs and output connectors on your equipment.

Don't feel bad....I still have a vcr. My kids have alot of disney tapes and are not audio/video aficionados.

I agree this is the best order.

If I am not mistaking, don't DVDs have macrovision? If they do, then putting your vcr after the dvd player may actually screw up your ability to watch dvds.

Not if you use a MV defeater. There are also RF modulators with 2 or more inputs. That might be the best solution. This one may have more than one input, otherwise they have a 4 input modulator for $50. Of course, other stores carry these, too. Rat Shack tends to be more expensive, you could probably find this at Target for less.

Cable box >> VCR >> RF Modulator
DVD >> RF Modulator
RF Modulator >> TV

Doable .. but if he's going to be $50 short just so that he can connect two analog sources to the TV, he may as well save it and go with the first recommendation and chain the DVD >> VCR >> Coax input (TV). The PQ will be negligible. The only tradeoff is that both the VCR and DVD player will have to be powered whereas the VCR wouldn't with the multi-input RFM.

Unfortunately some VCRs kick in Macrovision even if you're not recording, so hooking the DVD player through the VCR might not work. In that case an A/V selector with an R/F modulator is the only way to go.

If you want the dirt-cheapest A/V selector possible, grab a video game system selector from Best Buy or Gamestop. You can get one with 4 or 5 inputs and a built-in R/F modulator for $20 or so. Some of them are a little ungainly, but they do the job.
