Hi. I am in the market for a LCD TV (around 27"-32"). I have been doing a lot of reading on, but I was hoping to get some recommendations from people who actually have the TVs. The most I can spend is $1500. Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm in the same market, but I'm budgeted a little higher. So far, I have seen nothing better than Sharp. I am looking at the LC-32D7U, but you should definitely check out the LC-32GA5U or its 26" brother, LC-26GA5U.

Costco has several lower priced LCDs in that price range.

My mother-in-law has a the 22" Aquos and she loves it.

I have been to Costco and they do have some nice LCDs. I noticed that there are a couple of brand names I saw on QVC and ShopNBC I never heard of like Proton and Mintek that claim to make TV for the bigger brand names, but never mention which brands they are.

The Gateway 30-inch HD-Ready LCD TV got a good report in TV Guide a few weeks back.

TV Guide is not what I would call a relevant source of information.

Costco does have several great looking lcd's.


There is a 26" Maxent that looks unbelievable with the HD feed that Costco gives it, and it's a steal at $799 (I have one that doubles as my pc monitor).

There is also a 32" Proview LCD that Costco will put on sale later this month for $899 that also looks great.


You can never go wrong with buying at Costco.


You should research on fatwallet.com and techbargains.com to see what is the current hot deal....never pay retail!

I read that Response time is very important with LCDs, especially when playing video games. What's the standard?

Sharps are running under 16ms. A bad response time would be anything 20ms or higher. Samsung has announced some 14ms in the future, but they will probably force you to use their stupid picture enhancement software like they do now.

For gaming? 8ms. They have 4ms now. ViewSonic says that's as low as possible.

For gaming 16ms is good. You are not going to find anything faster in a bigger LCD panel as used for TV displays. 17" computer monitors - sure, the 4ms ViewSonic is nice. But you aren't going to see that type of responce in larger TVs - yet.
