Degaussing Trick

I'm sure this is old hat to our more knowledgable members, but I found this out the hard way tonight. I had my TV turned while I was working behind it, and when I turned it back on, I had a nice pink splotch on the bottom of the screen (too close to speaker I guess). I was pretty upset thinking I had magnetized my TV tube, numerous attempts and powering on and off didn't work.

But I thought about how most CRTs auto-degauss. So I simply unplugged the set from the wall, waited about a minute, and plugged it back in. Viola, good as new.

Anyway, like I said, probably basic knowledge for some here, but for the rest of us, perhaps a handy tip if you ever get a magnet too close to your screen and have the same symptoms.

I don't think you have to degauss an LCD though. No electron beam.

I was just going to post that LCD doesn't degauss.
