5.1 input switcher?

Does anyone know if this is even possible, my reciever only has 1 set on 5.1 inputs, yet i have 2 players one for sacd and one for dvd-a. i manually change them, but then i thought maybe there is some sort of audio switcher that might be able to do this for me...any ideas?

Thanks!

What do you mean by 5.1 inputs. Are we talking optical, coaxial, or RCA/Composites.

Good question. Maybe someone can find one cheaper than this $400 unit:

which was the only one I could find.

What a powerful argument in favor of universal players!

Analog audio is fairly easy to transmit. You could do this with 2 decent A/V switchers. Or with one that has 2 outputs. Rat Shack has one.

Sure, you could switch three channels at a time using a component video connection for audio. But I think you'd need two even with that Radio Shack unit; I don't think it can assign two sets of inputs to the same output simultaneously. Still, $60 is better than $400.

SACD and DVD-A are decoded by the player, not the receiver, so the signal sent out by the player is not a digital signal, much like a player using it's own, built-in DD or DTS decoders should they have them.

I had a similar problem with SACD and DVD-A, but just ended up getting a universal player that I use just for SACD and DVD-A playback.

Just to be absolutely clear: DVD-Audio and SACD hi-rez are not available via a standard digital connection. You *must* use the 6 analog connections from the player to the receiver. If you have two such sources, but only one set of inputs, you end up with unclejosh's problem.

Well it lists 2 separate outputs, so that should work. One goes to front/center, the other to surround/sub. But it is also an auto-sensing switcher. If you can turn off the auto switching, it might work ok. The auto might screw it up, though. At least it's only $30, now. Their 2-output switch used to be $99.

I am just going on Rat Shack's specs, here. I've never used it or done this for SACD/DVD-A. I got a Denon universal instead. So I'm not totally confident in this theory.
