Help! Can't figure out how to switch modes on my hotel TV.

OK...here's the background. I travel often for my job, and I always bring my PS2 for something to do if I'm stuck in the room at night. I've never had a problem connecting to the RCA inputs and switching to the AUX or VIDEO1 inputs before.....until now.

The TV in my room is an RCA brand (didn't think to get the model #, but I can update later if needed) with front RCA jacks. I set everything up and scroll through the channels, no AUX or VIDEO input. I try everything, including going through the menus to find an option for switching, but there isn't anything. There is a channel guide which appears to be a listing of valid channels, and that list goes from 2 to 33. There isn't a way to edit this list, as far as I can find. By the way, they use that Lodgenet in room movie service, which basically hijacks everything. I've disabled that and rewired the TV so that I can rule out that. I happen to notice down in the lobby, they also have an RCA tv, but this remote is an actual RCA remote, not a lodgenet one like in my room. So I "borrow" the remote, take it to my room and bingo...works like a champ. It even has a button labeled "Input" which works as advertised down in the lobby, switching between the input modes. But when I press it for my TV in my room, I get a flash to a blank screen then it comes back to the channel I've got tuned in! What???

As a last resort, I bought a universal remote and tried every code it had for RCA tv's, and while several were able to control the TV, none of them would switch the input mode. I get the same response as I did with the lobby remote....switches to black, then back to the original channel.

Any ideas, suggestions, comments, rants?

As I said, I can supply the TV specs after I get back to the hotel tonight. I will be staying at this hotel for a couple months, so I would really like to figure this out.

I asked the front desk and they told me "You are not allowed to connect anything to the TV". So I asked why there were inputs right on the front of the TV then. No answer.

Is it possible that they have disabled the alternate inputs somehow? The back of the TV also has a set of RCA inputs and an S-Video input. I've tried this RCA input also with the same results.

Thanks!

can the Tv tune in to channel 91? We have an old RCA and no longer have the original remote, and had to do that to play the PS2 after hooking up the connections.
hope that works!

Our old RCA also uses channel 91. Try 0 or anything in the 90s.

I got the RF modulator and it works great. I wasn't able to tune in any channels other than the ones that are preset in the list of available channels, which did not include 91 or 00. 3 is also not a tunable channel but 4 is. So all is well again. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Re: Help! Can't figure out how to switch modes on my hotel TV.

Lodgenet LG TV activating input mode.

Here's the combo:

Ask front desk for LG TV remote control
Remove back cover from LG TV that (contains lodgenet unit.) Will need phillips head driver.
remove serial cable
Press Menu button on LG remote
Menu will come up, but won't navigate
Put serial cable back into LG TV
Now the menu button will navigate
Select INPUT-AV2
If using RCA cable from Ipod-plug in red cable to yellow RCA input on LG TV. Or perhaps yellow to red, can't remember for sure. Of course, white to white will provide the audio.

Should be golden. Hope this helps someone out there!!!

What a strange bump and first post.
