DVD Player Indicates "No Disc"

I have a Magnavox MDV 455 DVD player, and when I insert a dvd and it doesn't seem to matter which one I get a "no disc" message. After repeated tries it will finally play the Disc.

Any Ideas? It has not been abused and all the DVD/s seem to be clean.
Any info would be appreciated.

Is it a retail DVD or is it a home movie put on DVD media that has been burned.

If it's only this one disc, then it's the disc. But, if it's other discs, your player may have issues.

The pickup is dirty or misaligned. Depending on how old the player is you may want to consider a new one.
