I purchased the LST-3510A from Best Buy for $399 which upconverts DVDs and it also has an integrated HDTV tuner (DVI output). I use a DVI to HDMI connection to my TV. It is an awesome machine and I am very happy with it.

the 400 disc players have performed like champions. no problems yet in over 1 year of service (crosses fingers). the 301 disc players had a tendency to occasionally eat a disc and it was a pain in the ass to get them out. after sending both of the 301 disc players into sony for warranty service i haven't had any issues with them since then. all in all i am very happy with all of them and would buy another of the 400 disc if the need arises. the price point of these units has come down to @ 300 which is less than i payed for the 301 disc units. i really like the ability to have my whole dvd collection stored in this fashion. during the recent blockbuster trade in deal, the girl couldn't believe the great condition of my dvds. i told her it was handled once, when i loaded it into my megachanger :) chris dollfins1 |

I've had several; my first was an old Panasonic which I bought in 2000 that looked like a tank compared to the slimline units of today. I owned two of those as well as one of the first Toshiba progressive scan players. The Panys both crapped out and the Toshiba got to be too finicky as to what it wanted to play.
My current units aren't esoteric by any means, a Sony DVP-NS575P in the living room and a Panasonic S27 in my son's room, as well as a standalone Magnavox DVD recorder. The Sony is the workhorse around here that gets the most use, and I mean ALOT of use. While I'm sure there are plenty of units that have more features, the Sony has done a great job for the year I've owned it and the price was a fraction of what my first player cost....I could buy three of these for the price I paid for my first and it's been a much more reliable machine with better features. I plan on picking up a multi-region player sometime soon, but I don't have plans on it being a replacement for the Sony....when it needs to be replaced it will likely be with the same unit or one a few notches above it from the Sony line. |

got a Denon 2900 when Good Guys was clearing them out, I should have bought 2 !! great machine. Before I had a Panny S35, pretty good machine for the $$ and always thought "how could my picture get any better?". This was on a Sony 32" FS100. Now I have Hitachi 57" S500 and the Denon is godly (although I must say I noticed a bigger jump in sound than picture initially).
I've bought friends and family numerous $100-200 dvd players that I always thought were good. but after the 2900 I'll never go back. oh, lastly I rarely have used them much for viewing dvds over the years but the various dvd-rom/dvd-rw drives I've had in my PC along with PowerDVD are pretty nice (albeit the drives are loud), blazing fast and put out pretty nice picture. Still can't beat the big screen in the end =) *imagines 100" front projection setup =)~~~~~ |
