Point taken, but I contend that without quality speakers, you are simply dead in the water.

I am not sure I understand the point. I am still using both speakers and amps that are over 25 years old with no problems. I will match my Adcom GFA-1A amp and my Magnepan MG-1A speakers up against anything that I could buy today. And for what I paid for that combo it would not even be close.
My point isn't that an amp wont last that long, just that a person is much more likely to want to upgrade an amp due to changes in technology...even after just a few years. That is a beautiful amp if it's the one I'm picturing, but I'm guessing that you substituted or added a DD/DTS decoder/receiver about 10 years ago...and then possibly upgraded to 7.1 at some point. Meanwhile, your terrific speakers required no such additions...even after 25 years!

I definitely understand where you are coming from. I'm just saying that technology is such that "cheap" receivers are pretty darn good these days and are almost "disposable". I've been very happy for the past 4 years or so with a Pioneer 711 matched to a set of 6 Energy bookshelves...at least for home theater purposes.

Thanks. I also wanted to give Paradigm a listen but it would have been a pain to get to the dealer in my area and I am not sure I could have heard the JBLs and Paradign side-by-side there anyway.

When I found the deal from B&H my decision was made -- it really is a good price as compared to buying them at my local Best Buy.

And they really do sound great.
