What display will eventually win in the future?
Among the current available displays these days: CRT, LCD, Plasma, DLP projector, which one do you think will win / dominate in the future?
So far, based on various reviews I believe in general, CRT still wins, as the pic quality remains the best. But, it can't be made larger than 36 I presume at the moment because at that screen size the set will already be space-consuming.
LCD boasts efficient energy consumption. But the pic still can't match CRT. Still quite far.
Plasma boasts large display. But consumes much energy.
Projector boasts large display, but can only be viewed on dark room.
Now what if the CRT can manage to create thinner tube (I heard rumor about this)?
Well, what do you think guys?

I read something in the NY Times a week or two ago that Samsung will have a nanotube type flat screen that will be cheaper than plasma and better picture quality. I wouldn't count on any of the current technology "winning" for the future. I think there are developments still to be seen which is why for now I've stayed with entry level CRT technology for my HDTV.

I don't think none of them are going to "win" the future. But you will see a trend to thinner tvs. CRT may have the best picture, but pretty soon you won't be able to find these at stores. Currently I would say the hottest trend is DLP.

Currently, each display type services a different market niche.
CRT = small to medium screen - cheap
LCD = small to medium screen - thin and more expensive
DLP = big screen - cheap (relatively) and big
Plasma = big screen - thin and more expensive
I don't see anyone winning outright unless you can ever get the thinness of LCD/Plasma down to a price where it is as cheap as the competition.
I do have trouble seeing how CRTs can be around in 20 years, however. The future is digital, and CRT is simply out of luck on that front.
But in 20 years, I suspect that all of the current technologies will be obsolete, and the choice will be between something like laser projection TVs and OLED flat screens.

RPTV CRTs might be analog but they still give the best PQ and screen sizes are not small. My vote goes to LCD to replace it though as the price comes down and quality improves on them.

There is currently no apparent winner-to-be. The best you can do now is find one that most fit your criteria (budget, size, black level, rainbow, etc) and eventually upgrade to something better when you feel that the time is right.

Of the ones currently available, I think DLP is the obvious winner, but I am sure it depends on your own needs, etc. Not sure why, but I have never been an LCD fan.
