Leaving LCD TV's plugged in (Question)

The instruction booklet to my LCD TV says to not leave it plugged in when it is not in use. Is there any reason to this?

I've never heard of this, other than to avoid damage from a power surge. What kind of TV do you have?

one of those 27" Maxent LCDs that are available at costco.

my Sony says to unplug it if it's not going to be used for extended periods of time....
