Ok I am moving out of the stone age (VCR) and into the moden age and I am getting a DVD recorder. I am leaning away from the Tivo route because I don't want to pay for a land line in my house because I use my cell all the time and don't need it.

Other than that I only use my VCR for recording shows when I am not home, or recording something for a buddy when he misses something or archieving shows. I am not looking for something expensive, just something I can put with my 5 disc DVD player, basically replacing the VCR...

anyways this suggestion post may sound lame, but I just want to know what I am getting into before I make a purchase.
