I've had my 40 hour DirecTIVO for a couple of months, and enjoy it immensely.

Lately I've noticed occasional - very occasional - intermittent minor image jumps during playback of recorded shows.

It doesn't impact the audio at all, but there will be sometimes be a brief image stutter, for lack of a better word.

I know this is a digital image, and this infrequent image issue resembles that. But I was wondering if it could be a TIVO unit issue instead.

I have gotten used to it with mine. Not sure if it is the tuner changing from live to recorded or if it is the player recording so you can pause and keep going.
