scanning defect dvd?
Hi all,
I recently bought a box set dvd. read in some reviews that many of these dvd boxset have defects. and busy as I am, it will take me a long time to watch all 9 dvds. I've found out by watching the first dvd in this boxset has a defect. just 2-3 seconds freeze in the same exact place . my question is: is there some sort of software where i'll be able to scan the dvd and find out whether the dvd has any sort of defect? preferrebly this software would not take as long to scan the dvd than if I would watch the movie. I guess what I'm looking for is something like virus scan which instead of scanning viruses, it scans errors in the dvd. Any comment, opinions, or advises will be hightly appreciated.
Thanks,
Raist

You could probably use some freeware disc scanning software such as DVDInfoPro. It checks to see if a DVD-ROM can read each sector.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. Tried the software you told me on th defect dvd. somehow the software could not detect the error. I tried playing the scene again when it freezes. the jump varies between that 2 secs to about half a minute. I'll keep looking for this software (if it exists).
thanks anyway! still any other advice would be very welcomed!

Could be some oddity with the player. Try wiping the DVD with Windex on the playable surface with a soft paper towel, then play it again. See what happens.
