Recommendations on a Subwoofer

So it appears my subwoofer has gone belly up, although I can send it in for a replacement (actually a newer model since mine is no longer produced) at a decent cost. So I'm weighing my options. I was wondering what are some good recommendations for subwoofers under $500, also including where to buy if you have that info. In short, best bang (or boom) for the buck. Thanks for any help!

For a budget sub I recommend the Dayton 10" from partsexpress.com it sells for around $135 and occasionally on sale for around $100. Otherwise I would go with either an HSU or an SVS.

I have an SVS and love it. Possibly the best bang for the buck home theater purchase I have ever made.

My theater is in my basement and the sub sits on a specially designed sub platform. I can feel the LFE on the third floor of my house on LOTR.

HSU-STF 2

If your still in the market for a subwoofer, take a look at your local CompUSA. They currently have the HSU-STF 2 sub on clearance for $199. From what I've read on several of the HT forums, this is a great 10" sub that is on par with many mid to higher end subs.

Dimensions: 19”(h)/14”(w)/18”(d)
Ship-weight: 44 lbs
120/240 V Capable: Switchable at the factory with internal jumper
Amplifier Power: 200 Watts
Warranty: 7 years on the woofer, 2 years on the electronics, parts and labor included

Suggested retail price: $499

Ditto the comment on SVS. Just a bit over your budget but worth every penny.
