Why should I NOT buy the Sony KF42WE610?

OK, slowly unpacking at our new house. Cable guy came by and said it will be another 2 weeks before they can install my cable (long story).

I figure I might try to narrow down choices on a new TV (so perhaps pick it up before the cable gets installed). I have read many, many reviews and the Sony RP-LCD's seem to be a good choice for me. And the 42" should be big enough:

-This will be in a living room and not in a dedicated theater set up. But I do plan to have surround sound, and pick up a new progressive scan DVD player for it.
-Will be able to control lighting only a little (at best).
-Probably 40% Digital cable watching, 40% DVD watching, 15% cable HD-TV, and 5% Playstation playing.
-Should be able to pick one up under $2,500 which is really the most I wanted to spend on a TV.
-The physical size is good as since we will not have a formal living room, my wife does not want the TV to be the main item in the room.
-My wife nixed CRT's (RP) due to size (she already bought a piece of furniture for the TV).
-I have considered a tubed HD-widescreen, but a nice 34" runs about $1,800. Seems for the bigger screen DLP or LCD (RP's) is the way to go.

I have read that the black levels are not the best (nor are they on any fixed pixel display). But most of our watching will have some light, so hopefully this will not be to noticable.

I also read where last year they had some lamp problems, but evidently those made after 01/04 are not having the problem.

What have I not thought of? I realize that Samsung just came out with the next generation of DLP, but I didn't see a 42-43" model. Going to the 46" would really blow my budget. I could probably get a deal on the Samsung HLN 43", but in my 3-4 times to see it next to the Sony, I have prefered the Sony (tho I'm sure both could do better properly set up).

Just want to make sure I got my bases covered before making the plundge. Yea, I know, there are a lot more expensive TV's out there, but $2,500 is a lot for a TV.

Personally, I'd go for pq over 'furniture' considerations. And that would mean a crt rp. Great contrast, no lighting or artifact problems, superb picture with just a bit of tweaking. Heck, you can get a nice 55" or 65" Mitsu within your budget. And you'd be glad you did. $^)

Totally agree with you (I had pretty much settled on that Pioneer CRT RP that Costco or Sams was selling). However, my wife and I have made a deal. I will go "low key" in the living room and she has agreed to let me turn the den into a "theater room" with front projector and around a 90" screen. Plus, I'm not sure a CRT RP would do so good in this room due to all the windows/sliding glass door.

However, right now that Den is full of boxes and appliences as we get settled in the house, so thought I'd start in the living room.
