I dislike LCD tvs....am I wrong?

I like the brightness, and I hate the price, but that isn't really the issue.

Every one I have ever seen, in any setup, looks too pixelated for me. Every single one. Are they just set up incorrectly? Is the source bad? I just hear raves about these and I don't see why I would want one.

Anyone?

Big ones with high native resolutions viewed from some distance can look pretty good. Until you get into fast motion.

Up close, relatively low resolution ones look like crap. That's my biggest problem with portable DVD players. Except for a couple of high-end players every one I've seen looks too much like the individual pixels and not a smooth picture.

CRT's tend to look better when you have a poor quality source.

This being said, there are advantages and disadvantages to each.

Personally, I think the biggest disadvantage to LCD TV's is (currently) their contrast. They have very poor contrast, black levels, and shadow detail. This seriously degrades the picture quality, regardless of the resolution. Beyond that, there's color (they only do 72-78% of the NTSC spectrum), response time (ghosting), backlight dimming, poor scalers, and many other problems.

There is no perfect technology. Everything is getting better, but you have to see what suits YOU best.

Love my T-shirt, by the way

So far, I think I prefer the dlp projections over the lcds.

Oh, you're talking projection TVs and not direct-view ones? I was talking direct-view. I agree with gotapex about the contrast/black level problems with projection sets.

No, I was talking direct view and then got side-tracked.

My biggest dislike with the lcd's of any kind is the pixel grid. Very noticeable.

I prefer the dlp based tv and projectors as well.

I'm a DLP fan myself. I have a front projection system and LOVE it! As for the LCD direct view monitors, PQ sucks in my opinion.

After owning a bunch of LCD and DLP projectors, I've settled on D-ILA/LCOS. Definitely my favorite.

take a look at the 42" Sony KDL42XBR950 flat panel lcd

that is the best damn picture i've ever seen, better than the pioneer plasmas or the mitsu lcos projections

of course, it retails for 14 G's

btw, are there any actual tv's out that use that d-ila yet?

In a very general, boiled down look at the two technologies, DLP has better black levels and a smoother picture. LCD has a much sharper picture and more "vibrant" colors.

The best thing to do is view side by side and see which you prefer.

I hope you were joking.

I have never liked LCD for any serious use. Portable DVD, fine, it does the job. But the black levels are too icky for anything else, IMO.

Yes, but not for that reason.
